SCHOOL
EVENTS!

footprints single.png

In previous years some schools across South Africa held African penguin events and pledged their support for our critically endangered Africa Penguin. We collectively stood together and shouted NOT ON OUR WATCH will the African Penguin go extinct! #NotOnOurWatch. To achieve countrywide awareness, we will always need YOUR support.

SUPPORT THE
AFRICAN PENGUIN:

The #NOOW Penguin Day is a nationwide schools drive to raise awareness about the plight of South Africa’s precious penguins. If thousands of young people raise their voices to try to save this endangered species, they will get the whole country to listen. Schools actively showed their support by allowing learners to:

  • Wear black and white clothes to school.

  • Wear black and white accessories to school.

  • Holding African Penguin waddles across the sports fields.

  • Creating African Penguin pictures, poems, murals or decorated spaces.

The #NOOW campaign will be watching

We were thrilled to see schools partaking and look forward to seeing more funny costumes, innovative designs, seas of black and white and awesome art from those holding events. It's been wonderful to see all of you just having a good time while supporting our unique penguins and helping us spread awareness.

For this year, please note that International African Penguin Awareness Day is on 11 October 2025
